General definition
Bionics is a multidisciplinary field that deals with the application of principles and structures from nature to engineering and technology. Biological processes, organisms and systems are studied in order to gain inspiration for the development of new materials, designs and technologies. The aim of bionics is to incorporate solutions and efficiency optimized by evolution into human design. This can include, for example, the development of bionic prostheses, robotic systems with animal-like movement sequences or the production of materials with the properties of natural structures. Bionics combines findings from biology, engineering, materials science and other fields to create innovative solutions.
