General definition
“Apathogen” is a term used in the field of biology to describe organisms or substances that cannot cause illness or infection. In contrast to pathogens that can cause disease, apathogens are harmless and have no harmful effect on the organism with which they come into contact. For example, they can be found in the environment without causing health problems, or exist as part of the normal microbiota in the human body without causing disease. Apathogens are not pathogenic and therefore pose no health risk.
